The list of projects to cost P118.77 billion combined was released by the Palace after a NEDA Board meeting that lasted nearly eight hours. President Benigno Aquino III, who chairs the board, called the meeting.
Among the 11 projects, eight were approved unconditionally, including several airport rehabilitation programs such as the P2.1-billion Tacloban Airport Redevelopment Project; to be implemented from next year until 2016, as well as the P17.5-billion first phase of a rehabilitation program for the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal, to be implemented from 2014 to 2016.
Meanwhile, also approved unconditionally are Road and Infrastructure Projects including the P1.14 billion Albay West Coast Road Project that will be undertaken over the course of two years, from 2014 to 2016. Two projects will be completed from next year to 2014: the development of a P1.7 billion Contactless Automatic Fare Collection System and a P13.1-billion undertaking to build 10,679 classrooms over the two-year period.
Also approved unconditionally are the P4.6-billion extension of the Mindanao Rural Development Project to be undertaken 2012 to 2014; the rehabilitation of turbines 4 and 5 of the Angat Hydroelectric Plant to be implemented next year until 2014 (P1.15 billion); and the acquisition of multi-role response vessels in preparation for rough weather. The government will spend P8.8 billion over the course of four years, or from 2012 to 2016, to procure the vessels.
Additionally, three projects were approved pending the resolution of several issues.
The NEDA Board approved, “in principle, pending a review of the cost,” a project that will connect the North and South Luzon Expressways. Should it be approved, the project will span three years, from 2013 to 2016.
The Cavite-Laguna Expressway was also conditionally approved pending a review of the proposed costing of the project amounting to P43 billion. If approved, construction will span five years, from 2012 to 2017.
Finally, only the P68-million first component, or Component A, of the Chain Enhancement for Rural Growth and Empowerment was approved by the NEDA Board. The project will be implemented from next year until 2019. — BM, GMA News Source: GMANetwork.com
